An Ancient Trick To Combat The Common Cold

While the Winter season can be some of the greatest months Colorado has to offer, it can also be a time when the dreaded Cold and Flu bugs make their appearance. Drinking plenty of fluids, staying active, eating a nutritious diet and washing your hands can all help to keep our immune systems strong. But once you start to feel those dreaded aches, chills, sniffles or headache, try this old folk remedy to kick those bugs to the curb:

Make a hot soup with organic, grass-fed beef bone broth (non-bone broth can be substituted if necessary), 4 sliced radishes, 5 chopped scallion stalks, and 1 piece of sliced fresh ginger, about the size of your thumb. Boil all of the ingredients together and strain. Drink the hot soup in the evening followed by a hot shower. Thoroughly dry off, bundle up and get under the covers. The goal is to produce a slight sweat, so once this happens you can shed a few layers. Take care not to catch another chill. By the morning, you should be feeling good as new! This remedy is especially effective at the first onset of symptoms. If you have been sick for more than 24 hours, other therapies may be beneficial.
